"Let's see, where do I start? I don't exactly talk about internal hemorrhoids with my girlfriends when we're drinking tea, ha ha! This was a difficult thing for me to get through, so I'm still a little uneasy talking about it.

It turned out that my 'innie' was now an 'outie.' Yes, my internal hemorrhoid had actually turned into an external hemorrhoid. This does happen often, and it's called prolapse, when it swells up so much that it eventually protrudes outside the body.
Once it becomes external, a prolapsed hemorrhoid can become more problematic. After all, it's just sitting out there where it can be irritated by everything from bowel movements to horseback riding.
